To date over 250 public libraries have signed-up to partner and distribute materials from Lighthouse in New York City on their very important campaign, "Open Your Eyes to the Facts--Vision Loss is Not a Normal Part of Aging! The publicity stage letting public libraries know about these materials end this month. These materials are free are aimed at older adults, their friends and caregivers. Every public library should have copies of these materials available for their staffs as well as patrons. Kleiman South Plainfield Public Library South Plainfield, NJ [EMAIL PROTECTED] 732-738-5183 With generous support from the AARP Andrus Foundation and supplemental funds from the National Eye Institute, Lighthouse International in New York City is spearheading a national public awareness campaign entitled Vision Loss is Not a Normal Part of Aging - Open Your Eyes to the Facts! Too many older adults as well as their support networks still believe - mistakenly - that vision impairment is a natural part of aging, and as a result do not seek help. In an effort to refute this myth, the campaign has produced booklets, a promotional poster and a bookmark that provide vital information for older adults and their caregivers. To date, over 250 public libraries have already signed up as partners for this project. Libraries are distributing these materials as part of their bookmobile and homebound programs, creating displays near their Large Print section, and also placing resources at the Circulation Desk and in the library's lobby. Over 80,000 copies of each booklet have been distributed nationwide to libraries and other organizations in the aging network. The project's goal is to have 500 public library partners involved in this public awareness effort. Please join this campaign by calling or going online to view and order free materials!
