This header may sound like a scam, but it's legit. Anyone (individual or library) who bought recorded music from 1995 through 2000 is entitled to a $20 payment as part of a class-action lawsuit settlement. The sign-up form is available online at www.musiccdsettlement.com or you can get a paper form by calling 877-347-4782. Deadline for signing up is March 3, 2003. Recorded music products include compact discs, cassettes, and LPs. You need to have purchased only one to qualify. There's no need for a receipt or proof of purchase. Here's why you want to be sure to sign up. If only a few million people sign up, you'll get a check for $20. If as many as nine million people sign up, the individual settlements will be cancelled and the money will be given to schools and other nonprofits, such as libraries, for purchasing music CDs. So you benefit either way.
