Clara Mounce sent the following e-mail to Peggy Rudd and agreed to have it posted on CTLS-L. ************* From: Mounce, Clara B [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, March 10, 2003 10:36 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Cc: 'Pat Tuohy' Subject: Money problems I have read Barbara Gubbin's email regarding the funding of the TexShare databases. While I can survive without direct aid and even collection development dollars for a year or so, I hesitate to recommend that we use these funds to pay for TexShare because our smaller libraries depend upon the collection development funds to make it though a year. Some of the smaller libraries are not taking advantage of TexShare -- I think we need to do more training so that they will realize the value of TexShare. I recommend the direct aid funds be used to fund TexShare but I can't recommend that you use all collection development funds--I would agree to using half of the collection development funds so that the smaller libraries would not be cut out completely. Peggy--it's really a tough time for libraries. I lost $37,000 of my collection development this year and have hopes that it won't happen to me next year. The TEXSHARE databases are really important to us--I hope they can be saved, or at least the major portion of them. I haven't gone over the titles to make a recommendation--I don't get usage counts on all of them, so I'm not sure what is being used the most. I need to spend some time on this subject.
