The TexShare annual report, which we have mounted at this URL: http://www.texshare.edu/cfdocs/annual/annualreport.cfm <http://www.texshare.edu/cfdocs/annual/annualreport.cfm> is experiencing technical difficulties. The server the survey is mounted on is located at the University of Texas. The University of Texas has one of the finest on-line map collections in the world. Due to our military actions in Iraq the servers at UT have been experiencing unusually heavy activity due to the number of hits the map collection has been receiving. This activity has been affecting your ability to access the survey. I realize we asked that the survey be completed by 3/31. I believe that you still have time to meet this deadline. Please be patient. Our kind,talented and capable partners at the University of Texas have assured me they are working to maintain the integrity of the servers. In the meantime if you experience difficulty accessing the survey, please try again later. The University of Texas expects the demands on the map collection to slow down by next week. All of this leads me into a discussion of: eLibrary. If you are interested in current events in Iraq you may want to check out this database. eLibrary features: a wealth of information from such diverse areas as books, television shows, newspapers, maps, and photograph collections. Full-text articles from popular reference books such as Frommer's travel guides, American History textbooks, World Almanac, World Encyclopedia and international business textbooks. Newspapers and magazines from the United States, Africa, Asia, and Europe are also included. The first screen that is displayed is the basic search screen. I invite you to click on the second tab at the top of the search screen; the one that says: topics. When you enter "Iraq" into the search box the return you receive is a concise list of topics related to Iraq. From there you can move to links to political information, link outs to websites, full text articles and maps of Iraq. You may also be interested in newspaper coverage of the current military conflict. Gale's Infotrac Custom Newspaper provides newspaper coverage from around the world. Search newspapers from in the United States for full-text articles. Also don't forget Ebsco's Military and Government Collection.Designed to offer current news pertaining to all branches of the military, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of those sites. The Military & Government Collection provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 300 journals and periodicals. The database also includes full text for 245 pamphlets and offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 400 titles. Some publications covered in this database include are Air Force Controller, Army Reserve Magazine, Defense Studies, Global Security Review, Joint Force Quarterly, Military Technology, National Review, Defense, Combat Edge, FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, Foreign Affairs, Military Technology, Naval Forces, and many more. Many full text titles are available in native (searchable) PDF, or scanned-in-color. And finally, if you are looking for a particular full text journal don't forget to use our on-line journal locator: TDNet. Located on the Librarian's Quick Links on our TexShare generic page, this utility will allow you to search an A-Z list of all of TexShare's full text journals. It will then display which database the journal is in and if you are IP authenticated you can link out to that database, if you are not IP authenticated you will just have to close out of TDNet and open up the database TDNet listed as the database the journal was listed in and locate the article you wanted.
