Our Dynix system has a notification system that calls a patron after some
library materials are 7 days late, or to notify them that a hold is ready to
be picked up. It s programmed to call between 9 a.m and noon and 5 p.m. to
8 p.m. It does not call on Sundays. It saves us a tremendous amount of
work. There is an upgrade of the system that allows the patron to call in
and find out the names of materials overdue--as a family sometimes can't
figure out what book to look for.

Before we started using the program we talked to some of our patrons about
their reactions and never got any negative comments.

We chose a staff member with a very pleasant voice to record the message.

For the price, it's a bargain.

We use a dialing machine to notify people of overdues. It works very well.
People like it because we call them early in the process and it saves them
fines.

One of our libraries asked me the following questions. Does anyone have an
answer? I had to look up Cooper, Texas on my Texas Highway map (it's in NE
TX, close to Sulphur Springs). Thanks! Laurie

We received a postcard from an organization called Booksharers/Booksavers
Charities in Cooper, Texas that was looking for book donations.. We've
searched a number of places and can't find anything about them. Do you know
anything about this group?

Also do you know of any public libraries that use an automatic dialer to
either tell people a reserve book is available or that they have material
overdue? Am a bit concerned that people will be irritated, but realize that
we spend HOURS on the phone.
