In This Issue: Contact Your Representatives About Librarian Loan
Forgiveness Legislation

Congressman Xavier Becerra (D-CA) is planning to offer an amendment to
HR 438, the teacher training bill. HR 438 contains expanded Stafford
(FFEL and Ford direct) loan forgiveness provisions for math and science
teachers in certain schools. Becerra has added language to the bill that
would also include Stafford loan forgiveness for librarians in public
libraries and in schools in certain low-income areas.

This bill may be introduced in the House Rules Committee as early as
tomorrow, Tuesday July 8, at 4:30 pm. If your Representative is on the
House Rules Committee and/or the House Education and the Workforce
Committee, please call your Representative's office and urge them to
support Rep. Becerra's bill. Committee members are listed below. Capitol
switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.
