Next application deadline: October 1, 2003 The Starbucks Foundation makes grants to local, non-profit organizations, that serve low-income, at-risk youth. Through their Youth Leadership grants, Starbucks funds innovative programs, particularly those in traditionally underserved communities, that embrace cultural diversity and involve families, schools and/or neighborhood organizations. Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000 and focus primarily on two major areas of emphasis: --Power Of Literacy benefits programs that stimulate personal development and encourage commitment to social equity, justice and environmental awareness through writing, literacy and the promotion of the voices of youth in public forums. --Leaders In Diversity supports programs that teach the value of societal diversity, with an emphasis on the development of leadership skills to build bridges of understanding between individuals, groups and communities.
