Explore the La Salle Shipwreck Story at the Texas State History Museum Inspect the La Belle shipwreck artifacts and meet author Mark Mitchell as he discusses his inspiration for writing and illustrating the award-winning book, Raising La Belle. This book and hands-on activity event will be presented at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, October 19 in the main exhibit hall of the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Raising La Belle - Explore the Story is the first in a new series of monthly family programs at the State History Museum, "Explore the Story -- Children's Literature in the Exhibits" to run October 19 through December 9. Explore the Story invites children and their families to connect artifacts from the museum's exhibits with stories that celebrate the Texas spirit. Each exploration includes hands-on activities and a short reading from a featured book, with surprises to be given away at each event. Each event is free with museum exhibit admission, which is $5.50 for adults, $4.50 for seniors and free for youth age 18 and under. Raising La Belle won the 2003 Spur Award for best juvenile nonfiction book, and the 2003 United States Maritime Literature Award (children's book category).
