A former CTLS librarian has asked for help with arguments
for not partnering with the school district for Internet
access.

(CTLS members did such a good job providing arguments for
automation for a CTLS librarian to use with her county
commissioners that I decided to go to you again.)

Dear Bob:

Our public schools have the most horrendous record of
submitting grants and not following through on the
requirements.

The school system has approached my City Manager with the
proposal that if we partner with them they can put us on
wireless, (not possible in this area yet) and save us paying
an ISP. They would of course be our provider.

We are a stand alone system. We are with TLC. We have an
ISDN. I knew, and was able to convince the city that we
needed to be stand alone. Our system works very well.

Can you send me information as to why we should not piggy
back and let the school handle our technology.

We know that the school system is not effective and they
have neither the expertise nor the technology that we have
at the library.

Please, Bob I need help. When I go to the meeting, I need to
understand this situation. Our school system is very good at
writing grants--what they do with them is heartbreaking. I
do not want to be involved with their numerous problems. I
have a very good IT, she is however new to libraries.
