FREE Teleconference on November 14th -- A Basic Toolkit: Good Manager and Good Employee Skills As part of the 2003-04 season of the College of DuPage teleconferences, the Texas State Library reminds Texas library staff of the opportunity to participate in "A Basic Toolkit: Good Manager and Good Employee Skills". This program will be broadcast as part of the College of DuPage's 2003-04 "Soaring to Excellence" series from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Central time on Friday, November 14, 2003. All Texas library staff are invited to view this program at participating host sites in Texas. OVERVIEW: The first teleconference of the 10th season offers a practical, grounded approach to improving the workplace environment and advancing your career. Debra presents different perspectives to help you gain a mutual understanding of what it means to be both a good supervisor and employee. She will provide you with specific information for improving skills that will both help you advance your career and make your workplace more enjoyable. PRESENTER: DEBRA WILCOX JOHNSON Dr. Johnson is a partner in Johnson & Johnson Consulting, a firm specializing in management, evaluation, literacy and training. She consults and trains throughout the United States on topics such as customer service, coping with technology, and creating an effective workplace. Dr. Johnson has taught at the University of Wisconsin and currently teaches for the University of Illinois via the Internet. She holds a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is known for her practical and sometimes humorous approach to modern life in the workplace. PROGRAM OUTLINE: 1. What's the Job Discussing what a supervisor's job is in relation to a staff position 2. Communication The roles of supervisor and employee in effective communication 3. Participants simply visit the TSLAC Webpage for this teleconference, view the list of participating host sites, decide which host site they would like to attend, notify the site coordinator at that host site of their plans to attend at least 24 in advance of the event and then sign-in at the host site on the day of the event.
