Hello, Below is a description of online training from the Gates Grant that
the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is offering. I have also
sent this information via the mail. Please let me know if you have any
questions.

Amanda at CTLS

Online Training Available for CTLS Library Directors and Staff

The Central Texas Library System is looking for volunteers from member
libraries to participate in online training provided by the Texas State
Library & Archives Commission (TSLAC). Element K online training classes
will be available from the Executrain company for a limited number of
participants.

The web-based Internet tutorials cover a wide variety of topics which can be
taken either self-paced (available 24/7) or with an online instructor at
particular times. To find out which classes are self-paced or with an
instructor, you must go to the Executrain web page at
http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/workshops/gatestrain/elementk/index.html.
Length of the classes vary from approximately 3 to 8 hours, and the classes
are available from any Internet computer. The computer does not need to
have the software being taught in the class.

TSLAC will be leasing licenses for the two types of courses until September
29, 2004, and students will have almost ten months to complete selected
courses. The course options are Office Productivity and Media Design.

Office Productivity includes:
Access, ACT!, Acrobat, Approach, Crystal Reports, DHTML, Encarta, Excel,
Filemaker Pro, Freelance Graphics, Frontpage, Groupwise, Home Publisher,
HTML, iGrafx Flowcharter, Internet Explorer, Lotus 1-2-3, Mac OS X,

Procreate Painter, Quark XPress, and Web Design.

Technical requirements:

Operating Systems: Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000; or MacOS 8 or 9
Browsers: Netscape Navigator version 4 (Netscape Communicator 4.05) or
higher; or Internet Explorer 4 or higher (Note: Netscape 6.x is not
supported at this time) Screen Resolution: 800 x 600 @256 colors.

CTLS will have a total of 26 licenses -- 14 productivity licenses and 12
design/media licenses to assign to member library employees (one license per
position and licenses cannot be shared). Due to the limited number of
licenses available, TSLAC is encouraging licenses also to be limited to one
per library. Larger libraries with multiple sites may be able to have more
than one license depending on the demand.

In deciding to participate, think about which training will most benefit
your library. If you are interested in having a license for either the
Office Productivity or the Media Design classed and have the permission of
your supervisor, please return the registration form by November 19, 2003.
Also, feel free to call Amanda Williams at 800-262-4431, ext. 13 for more
information.
