One of APL's Wired for Youth Librarians was honored with the 2003 New York
Times Librarian Awards. A ceremony and reception were held on Tuesday,
December 16, at The Times in New York. At the event Joanna Nigrelli, WFY
Librarian at Terrazas and Windsor Park Branches along with 26 other
librarians from across the country was honored with a plaque and a cash
prize of $2,500.
The Times received nearly 2,000 nominations from 46 states in 2003. The
selection committee chose 27 winners who represent the highest level of
public service and contribution to their communities. The Times is honored
to acknowledge the work of these individuals and to celebrate their
accomplishments. Joanna was the only librarian from Texas selected. We are
proud of her and all of Austin Public Library's youth staff.
