Jeff Brown, Creator of Flat Stanley, Dies at 77 Jeff Brown, who gained fame as the author of the Flat Stanley books, died on December 3rd. Brown had served on the editorial staffs of The New Yorker, The Saturday Evening Post, Life, and Esquire magazines. His stories were published in these and other magazines. Inspired by a bedtime conversation with his two sons, Brown invented a character named Stanley Lambchop who gets flattened by a falling bulletin board and has adventures such as traveling by envelope to see his friends and finds that being flat has its advantages.
