Austin, TX 78723 Contact: James Willms 512/919-5358 [EMAIL PROTECTED] GT Approved Descriptor: If you work with four to seven year-olds you know how challenging it can be sometimes to keep their attention. Learn how to make the wiggles part of the learning with the hands-on activities you'll make to take back to your library or classroom. Activities are from Linda Ayers' book Read It Again!: Standards-Based Literature Lessons for Young Children published by Linworth Publishing in July 2003. Each participant will receive a copy of the book, which contains activities for 30 children's picture books. The book is divided into three sections: Preschool, Kindergarten, and Early Elementary, and includes a detailed skills table for each activity. The morning portion of this workshop focuses on book and activity selection, time management, and ways to use literature to develop critical thinking skills and teach TEKS objectives. During the afternoon participants will make activities to use with Storytime. School librarians and teachers will be glad to know that all make-and-take activities have been correlated with the TEKS. Teachers looking for activities to use with gifted and talented students are sure to find ways to challenge their learners.
