The Jewish Community of Austin has an annual event called Mitzvah day, where more than 500 volunteers mobilize to be of service to the Austin greater community. This year on Sunday April 25, 2004, we hope to positively impact scores of non-profit agencies across Austin. Please look at our plans and let us know if you would like to be a part!

Maintenance/physical labor projects

(e.g, Painting, Yard clean up, Building repairs, Park clean-up, Trail Maintenance, etc.)

Collection/sorting projects

(e.g., Food, Books, Clothing, Blood drive, Toys, games/software, School supplies, Items identified on "wish lists")

Direct service projects (professional)

(e.g., Medical, Nutritional, Hair cutting, Clothing and interviewing preparation, Computer help, Accounting/bookkeeping/organizing help, Physical fitness, other…)

Educational projects

(e.g., Reading, Mentoring, School support, How to do sewing repairs, How to prepare fast, healthy, inexpensive meals, Teaching the elderly how to use computers (email/Internet), Health and physical fitness, other)

Applied crafts

(e.g., quilt project, making things with /for others (e.g., table center pieces for soup kitchens, etc)

You can be a beneficiary of this tremendous desire on the part of volunteers to "do good" by responding with any of the following:

1.         If your agency has a "wish list" of items needed, send it to us with a contact name

2.         If your agency has a project in mind (reference the above sample ideas) that can use capable volunteers on the afternoon of April 25th, 2004
