Subject: [syscon-tx] HeritageQuest and Stat!Ref Pledge drive update

I want to update everyone on our current pledge drive to renew our state
wide access subscription to HeritageQuest and Stat!Ref.
Here are some FAQs that you may find useful:

1. Can I just make a pledge to the renewal of the HeritageQuest
database and not pay my TexShare fee?
A. No, you must be current in your TexShare fees in order to
participate in the pledge drive.
2. Is this the only time you will ask for a pledge? Is my pledge going
to cover the next several years?
A. You are being asked to contribute to cover the cost of the database
for a one year subscription. The subscription year begins on July 1,2004 and
lasts until June 30, 2005. You may be asked to pledge again next year for
the 2005-2006 subscription year.

3. What are the populations figures based on?
A. Population numbers are based on what is found in the annual public
library report and from the THECB website for academic libraries.
4. How good is this pricing for the databases?
A. This is excellent pricing for the HeritageQuest database. Not only
are you pledging to renew our HeritageQuest subscription but, you are
pledging to renew access to the Sanborn Map of Texas.
5. Are the HeritageQuest pledge drive and our annual fee the same
thing?
A. No. These are two separate requests for support ; one is for support
of the core database collection and one is for support of the HeritageQuest
database.
6. Are donations made to the pledge drive tax deductible?
A. Please check with your accountant or tax lawyer to determine this, TSLAC
will not issue receipts reflecting the donation as a tax deduction.

Also I want to emphasize a few key points:
**Pledge what you can afford. By all members working together I know we can
attain our goal of $243,000 for the renewal of Heritage Quest. I have heard
from many libraries that are worried about finding the funds for the
"recommended amount" we have suggested for a library in their population
tier. Don't get hung up on this amount, work with your local friends or
genealogy group or make a much smaller pledge than recommended. The point is
to achieve our goal and to have as much participation as possible from our
member libraries.
**There has been some confusion about the amount we are suggesting for
Stat!Ref. Again, this is just a recommendation based upon what some
libraries indicated they could afford to pay for this subscription. Pledge
what you can and participate in the process.
**You will not be invoiced until we reach our goal, I am only seeking
pledges at the moment.
Follow pledge drive updates here:

Updates will be posted routinely.

We only have about 2 weeks until the May 1st deadline is here. Thanks to
everyone who has pledged so far! Let's keep HeritageQuest and Stat!Ref as
part of our core collection!
