We have raised 70% of the funds necessary for the renewal of HeritageQuest. We have reached 40% of funds necessary for the renewal of Stat!Ref. Is YOUR library listed as part of the pledge drive? If not, it's not too late. The deadline for pledging has been extended until Monday, May 3rd. Don't believe your contribution won't help. We've gotten to 70% by libraries pledging anywhere from 2 figure amounts to 5 figure amounts. Every pledge received helps move us closer to our goal. Check out our progress here: http://www.texshare.edu/programs/academicdb/pledges/index.html
The TexShare Mission statement is: TexShare is a cooperative program designed to improve service to Texans. Members include public libraries that belong to the regional library systems, academic libraries, and libraries of clinical medicine. TexShare enables libraries to offer a broader range of materials and services than any single library can provide for its constituents.
I believe the pledge drive is going to be a success because so many libraries have made the decision to participate in our effort to continue providing these 2 databases to every TexShare member library. Libraries understand the mission statement of TexShare and are actively participating in the process to bring these resources to every TexShare library.
The pledge drive has gotten coverage in the Houston Chronicle. Mic Barnette wrote a great article about the HQ pledge drive in the Houston Chronicle. You can find this story using one of the TexShare databases: InfoTrac Newspapers. Go to this databases and in the search box type in: "HeritageQuest". The first reference that comes up is a link to the Houston Chronicle story. A variation of the story can also be found here: http://micbarnette.bravepages.com/texshare_2004.html
And finally, I've had some people ask: "where did you get the idea to do a pledge drive?". Working with the EIWG, getting the support of TSLAC administration and reading a couple of articles by Steve Coffman on libraries using NPR type models for fund raising, I decided Texas could be successful in raising enough money for the database renewals. Want to read the articles? They can be found also using the TexShare databases. Go to the Academic Search Premier database and search for Steve Coffman as author or use these links: Saving Ourselves: Plural Funding for Public Libraries. By: Coffman, Steve. I look forward to attaining our 100% goal.
