Hi! Deborah, can you transmit this request for information to the
system listservs? I have heard some libraries mention this issue,
but not very many. Thanks, Pat

Hi Pat,
Got a serious question for you. I know that Texas is one of the states
that has a carry-law. Virginia now does, too. And in the Falls Church
area just outside of D.C. there have been a couple of gun carriers who
are constantly challenging various public places to try and stop them
from carrying their guns, including at libraries.

What do the libraries in Texas do about this? Is there a state
exception for libraries, as there is for schools? One of the Virginia
librarians is suggesting that we should seek a federal change to the
requirement allowing guns to be banned from nearby and in schools -
adding a ban for guns near and in libraries and community centers -
where children are.

Has TxLA or PLA or any ALA group every addressed this issue? People
kind of giggled when I asked about it...if you don't live in a
carry-state it's hard to believe. But I do remember signs on buildings
(maybe hotels?) prohibiting guns on their premises.

Any info. or ideas would be helpful. Hope all is well down
there....these sure are interesting times we live in.
Lynne
