NATIONAL PUBLIC LIBRARY SURVEY NEEDS YOUR INPUT

A new national survey of public libraries and Internet connectivity was sent

to libraries across the country in November 2004. The study is funded by the

the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the American Library Association

(ALA), and conducted by researchers from Florida State University's

Information Use Management and Policy Institute (http://www.ii.fsu.edu).

You likely already received the survey notice which invited you to respond

to the web-based survey by December 10, 2004.  The survey is still up and

running, so PLEASE do participate! The survey has a total of 17 questions

that will take you about 15 minutes to complete.  Questions 1-8 ask

questions regarding selected library branches in your system (if

applicable), while questions 9-17 pertain to the entire library system.  It

is likely that not all of your branches were included in the study, as they

were selected randomly.

You will need the 8 of 10 character Library ID code included in the letter

you received to initiate the survey.  If you have lost that ID number,

please send an e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and include your library's name

and state in which the library resides.

The answers you provide will provide public libraries, state library

agencies, the Gates Foundation, ALA, policymakers, and others with extremely

important data regarding public library Internet connectivity issues, and

the impacts of such connectivity in the communities that libraries serve.

you for your help!
