Ron Paul of Texas (R-14th) introduced the Professional Educators Tax Relief Act (H.R. 405). This legislation, according to Paul, is designed to "help raise educators' take-home pay by reducing educators' taxes." It provides $1,000 tax credits to "counselors, librarians, and all school personnel involved in any aspect of the K-12 academic program." Recognizing educators are often "under-appreciated and under-paid," H.R. 405 aims to let educators "know that the American people and the Congress respect their work" and "encourage highly qualified people to enter, and remain in, education." The Professional Educators Tax Relief Act is one of two bills providing tax breaks for educators that Rep. Paul introduced. The other is called the Teachers Tax Cut Act. The two should not be confused. Please contact your member of Congress and urge him or her to become a co-sponsor of H.R. 405, the Professional Educators Tax Relief Act. ****** Remember: You Can Call Any MEMBER OF CONGRESS Toll-Free: 1-800-839-5276 ****** ALAWON (ISSN 1069-7799) is a free, irregular publication of the American Library Association Washington Office.
