New PSAs with library messages released by ABC-TV; ALA members
encouraged to contact local ABC stations

Seven new public service announcements (PSAs) produced by ABC and
featuring daytime and primetime stars, and four additional ones with
George Lopez that were created by the American Library Association
(ALA), are being released by ABC-TV this month.

To date, ABC has produced 25 PSAs as part of an ongoing relationship
between ABC-TV and The Campaign for America's Libraries, which began in
2001.

The new PSAs feature Zach Levi ("Less than Perfect"), Rebecca Budig
("All My Children"), Evangeline Lily ("Lost"),
Kimberly-Williams-Paisley ("According to Jim"), Noah Gray-Cabey
("My Wife and Kids"), Masiela Lusha ("George Lopez"), and
Taylor Atelian and Billi Bruno ("According to Jim"). The end of
each PSA is tagged with "The Campaign for America's Libraries" and
the ALA's Web address.

Also included in the package are four new PSAs featuring George Lopez
that were produced by ALA's Campaign for America's Libraries. One
spot highlights "Today's Library" and another showcases librarians
as the "Ultimate Search Engine." Two of the PSAs spotlight "The
Smartest Card," the centerpiece of the Public Library Association's
new advocacy campaign.

ABC is making all 11 spots available in a single package via satellite
to its 225 affiliates. Satellite feeds of the new PSAs will take place
on February 4, 11, 18 and 25.

To ensure that the PSAs get airtime from affiliates, libraries across
the country are encouraged to alert their local ABC television stations
that the PSAs will be available. A tipsheet is online on the campaign
Web site at www.ala.org/@yourlibrary with ideas for reaching out and
working with local television public service directors now and
throughout the year, as well as contact information for local ABC
stations.

Libraries are urged to let the ALA Public Information Office know if
their local stations are airing any of the spots. Send email to:
