Subject: RE: Carpet tiles - Originally from Peg Fleet

We opted for carpet tiles at Temple Public, and I'm glad we did. It has enabled us to replace small stained or worn sections without having to replace the whole carpet. When I was at Georgetown Public and we had a water pipe break, it made it easy to dry out. We just pulled up the tiles, leaned them up against the building in the sun, and let them drain and dry (of course it was a relatively small section).

Unfortunately I'm not sure how much overage to calculate. We purchased a lot of extra with the idea of using it when we expanded into another area of the building. As it turns out, it's been long enough that when we finally do renovate we'll probably recarpet that floor anyway, so we're using what we were saving for that to take care of bad spots in the carpet. I would bet that a carpet vendor could tell you how much you need though.

Hello, again,

I'm back with another question.

I've been asked to look at the possibility of using carpet tiles, or squares, rather than roll carpet, for our library's meeting room.  The room is a high traffic area and is used for multiple purposes, children's programs, community meetings, etc.

I would like to hear from anyone who has experience, positive or negative, with this type of floor cover.  Since part of the purpose of using the tiles is to be able to replace them, I'm also curious to know what might be a good percentage of overage to order as replacements.

Thank you.
