If you have evacuees in your community, please see the message below from San Antonio. Austin PL was working on doing storytimes for the kids at the shelters here. Assistance from PIOs, Public Relations Managers, Development Directors, etc., in handling the media would probably be appreciated. Most likely the PR/media person for the Red Cross or the Salvation Army would be the contact to offer help. I am working with the San Antonio shelter tomorrow. We are offering extended computer time and free printing to evacuees to go online to contact family members, begin filing for disaster assistance, hunt for jobs, etc. We are offering Library cards to any evacuees, whether or not they are Bexar County residents. We are collecting books from our Friends group that had been earmarked for book sales to donate to shelters for evacuees' use. Story from the Children's Librarian at our Cortez Branch: One of the refugees from Katrina came to Cortez to use the computer, as he was leaving he turned to me and said that he wanted to "Thank the people of Texas for the generosity, graciousness and kindness. It was greatly appreciated." It reminded me that little things in times of crisis can mean a lot. We can't build homes, but offering what we can with a smile builds a human connection which, in turn, gives a little hope. My library was dukedom large enough - Shakespeare Beth Graham Public Relations Manager San Antonio Public Library Phone (210) 207-2638 Fax (210) 207-2603 email [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit our web site! www.sanantonio.gov/library
