Subject: [syscon-tx] New TexShare Advisory Board members

TexShare member libraries -

We are pleased to announce that the Texas State Library and Archives
Commission has approved the following appointments to the TexShare Advisory
Board, with terms beginning September 1, 2005. The TexShare Advisory Board
is charged by statute to advise the
commission on matters relating to the consortium. (Government Code ยง441.226)
Board members are appointed to 3-year terms, with terms staggered so that
only a portion of the Board "turns over" each year.

Public university representative: Douglas Ferrier, Director of Library,
Information Resources and Distance Education, University of Texas at
Brownsville and Texas Southmost College. Mr. Ferrier serves on the Texas
Library Association Legislative Committee, the University of Texas System
Advisory Committee on Library Affairs, the Texas Council of State University
Librarians. Mr. Ferrier currently chairs the board and is serving a second
term. Term to expire August 31, 2008.

Community college representative: Dennis Michaelis. President McLennan
Community College. Member of American Association of Community College
Trustees, Texas Community College Teachers Association, Texas Association of
Community Colleges. Chair of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund
(TIF) Higher Education Working Group and member of TIF Sustainability Task
Force. Dr. Michaelis currently serves on the board and is serving a second
term. Term to expire August 31, 2008.

General public representative: Loriene Roy, Professor, School of Information
and Center for Women's Studies, University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Roy was
recently honored by Library Journal as one of the 2005 "Movers and Shakers,"
making special note of her projects, "If I Can Read I Can Do Anything,"
"NWIC Oksale Program Virtual Library," and "Honoring Generations." Dr. Roy's
classes have partnered with TexShare to provide database guides, a Library
of Texas tutorial, and a "Bridge to TexShare for Small and Rural Libraries."
Term to expire August 31, 2008.

Public library representative: Larry Justiss, Director Tom Green County
Library. Mr. Justiss has served on the Joint TSLAC/TLA Task Force on
Implementation of the Public Library Development Study, the TexShare
Communication Plan Implementation Task Force, and the TexShare Card Program
Working Group. Term to expire August 31, 2008.

General public representative: Catherine Dean. Ms. Dean is a strong
supporter of libraries. She has recently completed service on the Board of
the San Antonio Public Library. She is currently active in several units of
the Texas Library Association - Friends of School Libraries; Library
Friends, Trustees & Advocates; TALL Texans; Archives and Local History; and
Genealogy. Term to expire August 31, 2006 (Ms. Dean replaces a member of
the board who has resigned before completing his term).
