A national survey of public libraries and Internet connectivity was sent to
libraries across the country last week. The study is funded by the the Bill
& Melinda Gates Foundation and the American Library Association (ALA), and
conducted by researchers from Florida State University's Information Use
Management and Policy Institute (http://www.ii.fsu.edu).

The survey has a total of 15 questions that will take you about 15 minutes
to complete. Questions 1-10 ask questions regarding selected library
branches in your system (if applicable), while questions 11-15 pertain to
the entire library system. It is likely that not all of your branches were
included in the study, as they were selected randomly.

To read more about the study and access the survey, visit
http://www.plinternetsurvey.org. You will need your state assigned Library
ID code included in the letter you received to initiate the survey. If you
have lost that ID number, you can look it up when you go to the "complete
the survey" page. If you have any questions, or need further assistance,
please e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The answers you provide will provide public libraries, state library
agencies, the Gates Foundation, ALA, policymakers, and others with extremely
important data regarding public library Internet connectivity issues, what
it takes to sustain public access Internet services in your library, and the
impacts of such connectivity in the communities that your library serves.

 Thank you for your help!
