update from the Capitol re: Arts programs .................................................................... Subject: TCA Update- Sunset Hearing From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Mon, April 3, 2006 3:53 pm To: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> In September 2005, the Sunset Commission began an examination of the Texas Commission on the Arts. It is a lengthy and involved process where the Sunset Commission determines whether the agency should continue to exist, should change in some significant way, or should be abolished. On March 28, 2006, the Sunset Commission staff took their findings to their board. The staff recommended continuing TCA for another 12 years. Sunset Commission board member, Howard Wolf, countered that he was in favor of abolishing the TCA entirely and would lobby fellow commissioners to adopt his position. Sunset staff has also recommended dissolving the Cultural Endowment Fund and returning the funds to the private donors and the State Legislature to use as they wish. Another recommendation of the Sunset staff is to limit TCAs involved in arts programming. They believe TCA should only provide grants to nonprofits. The Sunset Advisory Commission is accepting written responses from the public until this Friday, April 7, 2006. If you wish to provide your input, please address your letters to: The Sunset Advisory Commission Staff <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> P. O.
