I am working with Raab Associates to put together
these seminars. They are a wonderful way for library
staff to receive training directly from the authors of
these wonderful books. Please feel free to pass this
information on to others who might be interested.

Raab Associates is pleased to announce the first in a
series of three web-based audio seminars for public
and school librarians.

Hands-on Science: Incorporating Science into Library
Programs

Vicki Cobb is the well-known author of more than
eighty-five highly entertaining nonfiction books for
children. Since 1972, when HarperCollins first
published Science Experiments You Can Eat, Cobb's
lighthearted approach to hands-on science has become
her trademark for getting kids involved in experiences
that create real learning. Cobb also writes a weekly
column, “Show-Biz Science,” for EducationalWorld.com.
Public librarians will learn how to incorporate
Vicki’s books into storytimes, afterschool programs,
and summer reading events. School librarians will
learn how to use science to increase free choice
reading and support curricular objectives. Both groups
will learn tips for helping science teachers and
parents increase student achievement and understanding
of science concepts.

Seminar Instructor: Vicki Cobb, author of I Face the
Wind, a 2004 Sibert Honor book, You Gotta Try This!:
Absolutely Irresistible Science, See For Yourself:
More Than 100 Experiments for Science Fairs and other
Projects, and more. Vicki Cobb graduated from Barnard
College with a major in zoology and went on to get a
Master's degree in Secondary Science Education. After
early careers as a laboratory researcher and science
