Gene:

I couldn't remember exactly the terms of use for the Job Corps materials, so I went back to my e-mail archive related to a previous workshop I had presented and found the a message below from Heather Sipple at NWCET. The Job Corps materials are public domain. Given that the Job Corps materials were developed for workforce development, they may be a good fit for your needs.

Hello Robert,

Thank you for your interest in our IT Curriculum.

You may download the materials found on the DOL Job Corps site. That is
public domain and does not belong to us in that format.

The same document is for sale from NWCET under the title Preparatory
Program. It's $200 and can be purchased at the link below. The only
difference (aside from the cost) is that ours has the NWCET info attached.

Another program that might interest you is CyberCareers for the Net
Generation. It is targeted towards middle and high school students, but can be used for community college students as well. The lesson plan modules are downloadable for free at www.cybercareers.org (under the educators section). And there is a free video available upon request. The goal of CyberCareers is to offer a complete resource to students, faculty and counselors exploring and teaching about the world of Information Technology careers.

I hope the curriculum is of help to you.

Thank you,
Heather Sipple

Subject: IT Currciculum for Job Corps

I am developing a seminar for small public libraries on establishing
computer training centers. Recently I ran into the IT curriculum NWCET
developed for the Job Corps (Dept. of Labor) and saw the notice that it is
available for use by the Job Corps centers. Obviously, the curriculum
modules can be downloaded from the Job Corps web site, but I was wondering
under what terms it could be used by a small rural public library as a
training tool. I also looked at the NWCET product catalog, but did not see
an item with that scope listed. Are the modules posted there usable by any
educational entities outside the Job Corps? If not, is the curriculum
available for licensing (and at what price)?

I included a citation to the Job Corps web site in my Resource list, but
would like to know what I may say about the modules' availability during the
seminar. Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Thanks.
