DETAILS:

Dear Youth Librarians,

Thank you for your hard work on "Reading: The Sport of Champions!" and for your wonderful contributions to the children in your communities.  Your summer reading clubs inspired and entertained children throughout Texas, helped them maintain reading skills, and will lead to greater academic achievement in the coming school year.  Congratulations on a job well done!

More than a half of a million children participated in last year's reading club, and we would like to know how many participated this year.  Would you please take time now to let us know how many children participated at your library, evaluate your 2006 Texas Reading Club materials, and order supplies for 2007?  Evaluation Forms and Order Forms were mailed to you last week.  For your convenience, links to the online forms are below.

2006 TRC Evaluation Form

The 2006 Texas Reading Club evaluation form is on the Texas State Library web site at www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/forms/eval.html.  Please complete this form.  It is very important as the results are used to justify funding for this program.  We need to know the number of children and teens who participated in your reading club and the number who attended your programs.   Complete the evaluation form by September 1, 2006 to be included in a drawing.  First prize is $200 worth of new children's books! Second prize is $100 worth of new children's books!

2007 Texas Reading Club Order Form

The 2007 theme is "Sail Away With Books!" and the artist is Diane Stanley.  The clip art will be uploaded very soon.  Please order supplies for the 2007 Texas Reading Club online by September 1, 2006 on the Texas State Library web site at www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/forms/order.html.

2007 Texas Reading Club Artwork and Manuals The "Sail Away With Books!" manuals will be mailed to you in late January, 2007 and the posters, bookmarks, reading logs, and certificates will be shipped in late March, 2007. (If you do not receive your supplies within a few weeks after the anticipated shipping dates, please let us know. Errors do occur; orders or shipments do get lost. We do not know that there is a problem until you tell us.)

2008 Texas Reading Club Theme

The fiftieth anniversary of the Texas Reading Club will be in 2008.  To celebrate this golden anniversary, the TLA Texas Reading Club Committee selected the theme: "Texas Reading Club Jubilee:  1958-2008!"  The Committee and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission are very pleased to announce that award-winning children's book illustrator, Janet Stevens, will create the artwork.  The manual programs will feature popular children's books, music, activities, games, toys, and films from the past 50 years.  I'll keep you posted about exciting developments on the 2008 Texas Reading Club!

I wish you rest and rejuvenation as your reading clubs wind down and children prepare to return to school.

Best regards,
