HELLO AGAIN!
Just a note regarding the communiqué that went out on Friday: the only change since the January and March communiqué is the ship to problems. We resolved the problem by the end of April this year. An email went out to the Cen-Tex ILL group on May 2. So disregard the discussion in the March communiqué on the ship to problems. Focus on the discussions that deal with how we work in the ILLiad software.
In respect to the ship to issue and the lending library, we continue to receive ILL material for area libraries here in ILL. This is because the lending library is also responsible for making sure their customer ship to information is correct. Many do not update this information or in our case do not add all of the referral libraries under our OCLC symbol. When we receive your material here, we route the material to you as soon as possible, by the next day. This is only about 1% or less of the total items shipped each month, with most of our requests arriving direct to you. If you do not receive your ILL requests within 2-3 weeks of your arrival email, contact us. We can provide contact information to the lending library to make sure there has not been a shipping problem on their end.
Some libraries will send articles electronically to us using ARIEL. Electronic delivery is a preferred method by some lenders. I mail these articles out to you within the same week of receipt. For those libraries that prefer to receive your articles direct electrically, I have been working with my IT staff to make this available but have been limited by my IT department and the city of Austin. I am still working on it.
Reminder:
If your address changes, please update your personal information in your ILLiad account and then let us know. We must update your constant data record on OCLC as well our manual label files. We use the manual labels to send you Austin Public Library books. The constant data record on OCLC is your official OCLC record that we use when we must manually send your ILL request on OCLC (YES we still have manual work to process each day!).
ILLIAD SURVEY
In my haste to get the email out and then go pick up a sick child I forgot to mention the ILLiad survey on the ILLiad logon screen. If you submitted ILL requests this month you noticed the survey button. Please take the time and fill out the form. It is short and easy. The State Library will run the survey for the month of October.
Busy ILL unit:
After my last communiqué in May, I spent the entire summer training all of the branches here at Austin Public Library how to use the ILLiad client. Yes we downloaded ILLiad to all of our circulation desks. Now our circulation staff can receive (that is contact customers when they receive their ILL books) and check out and check in ILL material. It has brought back an accountable circulation system of ILL material since we went live in January 2005. The Austin ILL center also completed the FY06 fiscal year with over 98,400 transactions. We are happy with the increase of service and hope our customers are happy as well.
As always if you have problems, concerns, questions, call or email me!
Until my next communiqué, take care!
