Friends-
CTLS has given away nearly 50,000 donated manga books. There are a few stragglers left--several bags of 5 different titles and 240 copies of Cromartie High. Any and all are free to the first folks who claim them-in any amount. I got this question the other day: "Should I add all these manga donations to my collection?" The manga books donated to CTLS were mostly for ages 13 and up. Some are for ages 16 and up. (Check the back of each book for publisher-suggested ages). As with any donation-even from CTLS-I ask you to look at the book yourself and also to look for reviews before adding it to your collection. Some of these titles, due to the content and subject matter, will be appropriate for your YA section and others should go in adult fiction. And just like with any donation, you may not want it at all. Yeah, some of the covers made me cringe. (Overheard at a recent CTLS event: "Well, if this type of cover sells romance novels, I guess it works for teenage boys."). When in doubt, read the book (manga doesn't take long to read), try to get reviews and make the decision that is best for your community.
