About Jennifer Armstrong:
Jennifer Armstrong is an award-winning author who has
written more than 100 books for all ages, from
pre-school through young adult. Her new books are,
Once Upon a Banana, illustrated by David Small, and
The American Story: 100 True Tales from American
History, which Tom Brokaw called, “A wonderful gift
not only to the children of this country but also
their parents." 

Among her other recent works are, Photo by Brady: A
Picture of the Civil War, a James Madison Book Award
Honor Book and Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World:
The Extraordinary True Story of Shackleton and the
Endurance, winner of the NCTE Orbis Pictus Award for
Outstanding Nonfiction. Ms. Armstrong is also the Vice
President of the board of directors at Ausable Press,
one of the leading not-for-profit small poetry presses
in the country. She sits on the board of the Universal
Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs, New York, a
project to turn a historic church into a performing
arts center. 

About the Webinar: Bringing History to Life 

“Much of what I do as a writer of historical fiction
and nonfiction is to put myself into the period I am
writing about, by collecting as much information as
possible and then reading between the lines.  I
extrapolate the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of
history by drawing inferences from my research. 
Because of my background as a novelist, I search
historical information for the most compelling
stories, and bring these narrative skills to my
nonfiction writing.   Young people who can discern the
human interest in history will find studying history
more exciting than they imagined it could be.”

springboards for creative history-telling
