Hi all:

I'll post a flier later, but just wanted to let you know that we'll have David
Bendekovic at the library on the above dates as part of a two day visit. I've
asked that the Thursday afternoon session be held for area libraries. An
expanded version will be held on Friday for my library staff. Below is a bit of
his biography.

I heard David at the TLA conference. He spoke to a packed audience in a large
meeting room. I was blown away by the leadership concepts that he presented and
the depth of knowledge in both business and library applications. His
bibliography alone is excellent. He is an engaging speaker, and there are
activities for the participants as well. As we face stable or declining
circulation counts and compete with other easily accessible forms of
entertainment and education, identifying our leadership strengths and marketing
solutions becomes increasingly important. If there was ever a time for us to
act more like a business-not the profit side but the marketing and leadership
side-the time is now.

I have been studying leadership concepts for years and have gone back to work
on my PhD in leadership in business. David's conference presentation spurred me
on to work on this degree-something I don't really need to do, but want to do.
So, he is inspirational as well. And that is a leadership trait, by the way-the
ability to inspire.

Look for a pdf flier coming to you soon. This is just an advance alert for this
free (to you) 3 ½ day library leadership conference.
