9:15                    SCANDINAVIAN NAMING CUSTOMS by Richard L. Hooverson 

This describes the use of patronymic names in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway,
the importance of farm names, the use of parish and census records in
reconstructing families, and the ways in which Scandinavian names were
Americanized.

10:30 - 12:15     WHEN GRANDMA SPOKE "DANE" by Michele McNabb, MLS (Library
Manager, The Danish Immigrant Museum)

This presentation will cover the primary resources in America and in Denmark
for use in Danish genealogical research. Immigration patterns and routes to
America will be discussed as well as the Danish Brotherhood and Sisterhood.
In conclusion, the unique resources and services of the Danish Immigrant
Museum will be outlined.

1:30 - 2:30         FINDING YOUR NORWEGIAN FAMILY by Derwood Johnson

This presentation will present a survey of the history of emigration from
Norway to America including port of departure and arrival, routes of travel
and settlement patterns. Family history research techniques will be
explained along with a discussion of helpful print and internet resources
and agencies offering research assistance.

2:45 - 4:30         DIGGING FOR YOUR SWEDISH ROOTS - GUIDE TO SWEDISH
GENEALOGY RESOURCES by Kathy Meade, Genline

Unable to find out where your Swedish ancestor came from? This workshop will
present steps and tips on how to trace your Swedish roots. An overview will
be given of what types of resources are available including emigration
records, passenger lists, census records, Swedish-American church records,
and Swedish church records and information will be given as to how to find
and use these resources. There will be a demonstration of how to search
one's family online using Genline, an online digital database of the
original Swedish church books as well as information about additional online
resources.
