Subject: [tlamembers] Texas Treasures at Legislative Day
Importance: High

The Friends of Libraries and Archives of Texas will once again sponsor
"Texas Treasures" on February 6, 2007 with support of the Texas Library
Association. This event will showcase some of the state's most important
archival documents which are rarely seen together. The event will be held
from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission
after TLA's Legislative Day visits.

If you have not yet registered for TLA Legislative Day, we urge you to do
so. Registration and hotel information are available at
http://www.txla.org/html/legis/legday.html. The discounted hotel rate is
available through January 16. All delegates will receive training and
materials on the evening of Monday, February 5. Delegates will also be able
to rest at the State Library between legislative office visits on February
6. The reception will provide a time for delegates to enjoy the state's most
prized archival holdings and visit informally with legislators and their
staff.

Among the "Texas Treasures" featured at the reception will be the 1836 Texas
Declaration of Independence, the 1836 Travis letter to the people of Texas
(touted as the most famous letter in Texas history), the 1876 Texas
Constitution, Civil War era flags, and two Mexican battle flags that were
captured during the Battle of San Jacinto. One of the flags is purported to
be from a unit of the Mexican army that fought at the Alamo.

Don't miss the incredible opportunity to view Texas history and to be a part
of Texas library history at TLA's Legislative Day 2007!
