Subject: [crt] TBA Award Winner: Things that go bump in the night

Joe Hayes, author of Ghost Fever/Mal de fantasma has won the Texas
Bluebonnet Award for 2006-07.

This year, almost 170,000 youngsters from across the State voted for the
award. Ghost Fever received 23,580 votes to win. It is the first time that
an author of a dual language book has received this award.

As I looked over the two books, The SOS Files and The Lightning Thief
(second and third place winners respectively), I kept thinking that I was
hearing someone whisper in my ear: "Danger, danger, Will Robinson," because
each of these top three books contained in youngsters facing varying hazards
and risks. The SOS Files received 20, 529 votes and The Lightning Thief
received 19,574 votes.

Coming in fourth was Good Dog with 18,455 votes and fifth was The Toughest
Cowboy with 14,407 votes.

I thank each of you for your support of the program and for the incredible
effort you made to get these and related books into the hands of kids.

You can find a press release and complete voting totals on our website:
