Subject: [slm] Webcast with Mary Minow - Patron Policies and
LatchkeyChildren Update

Podcast and webcast: Patron Policies and Latchkey Children

http://infoblog.infopeople.org/2007/07/podcast_of_patron_policies_and.php

In this July 19, 2007 presentation, Mary Minow - lawyer, librarian, and

national treasure - discusses the implications of various lawsuits

against libraries for the construction and enforcement of your own

library's policies.

For the webcase specifically, see:
http://infopeople.org/training/webcasts/webcast_data/189/index.html

Run-time is about an hour. You don't need a username/password, just provide
a name. The program will run you through a wizard to make sure your
computer has all the necessary elements to view. This takes a while, so I
just listened to the Podcast. For that, you just need audio software like
Windows Media or RealPlayer.

FEND off law suits (Free Speech, Equality/Enforcement, Notice, Due Process).

Something I found very interesting was her recommendation that libraries
need an appeals process for all policies.
