Need creative ideas for library displays? PUBLIB has had a recent discussion
about this. Results from several libraries are compiled below.

Hello everyone,
Thank you so much for the wonderful display ideas! Our director was very
excited by all of the great suggestions. Here is a compilation for those
who are interested:
General Suggestions:
- Good signage is very important
- Creative signage helps
- Props make for good displays- Dollar Stores are your friends!
- Use all endcaps
- minimum of five books on an endcap
- maximum of fifteen
More Specific Suggestions:
- Themed historical fiction
- Civil War
- Holocaust
- Books from which movies were based
- Seasonal displays (this was repeated by many respondents)
- Seasonal displays that are less obvious
- Comfort Foods display during very snowy weather
- Topics people enjoy but don't associate with books
- TV Shows
- TV Stars
- Gambling (Texas Hold 'Em Poker is very popular right now)
- Cookbooks for "sinful" foods: mac 'n cheese, fried foods,
cookies)
- Current Affairs/Gossip
- one librarian put out all books on the Kennedy family when
JFK, Jr died and all of the books, even the old ones, went out very
quickly
- Color-themed displays (surprisingly, this was repeated by a few
different respondents)
- pink, red, yellow books were the most popular colors
- National _________ Month displays
- National Chocolate Month
- States
- a different state every few weeks
- neighboring states are very popular, especially during months
when people travel
- "one-tank trips" _type books
- local travel
Specific Display Ideas:
- "Delicious Summer Reads"
- fake grapes and an empty Chianti bottle
- any book that has words or pictures of a beach or
summery-looking places
- Staff Picks
- especially "Becca's Pick", "Frank's Pick", et cetera
- Movie star biographies
- Gardening
- Pets
- Ohio/Columbus history
- Tattoos
- Manners and Etiquette
- Customized Cars
- Bodybuilding
- Identity Theft
- Good Books You Might Have Missed (bestsellers from the past 10
years)
- Wedding
- Banned Books (this was repeated by many respondents)
- Ways to Go Green
