Friends - The Bastrop Public Library just got enough funds from HEB to buy gaming equipment for their programs! Sheilah Kosco, teen librarian, wants to know if anyone has a lead on companies that might offer a discount to libraries. I have a partial answer below. If you have wisdom to share, please respond to me or to Sheilah. Thanks. Can you send us info on this great windfall for our website? Very cool. I don't know of any companies that offer discounts like you describe, however I think Best Buy might be a good choice since they have a track record with other libraries (see the article). Same for any local electronics, comics or kid-entertainment biz. I will pass your question along to Monique Lee in our office, who may be able to help you locate a vendor with a discount contract. I'll also post your question to ctls-l and our youth list. Article on gaming in the library with a few ideas on where to get donations: http://www.gamingtarget.com/article.php?artid=4579 Best Buy: <http://www.bestbuy.com/> http://www.bestbuy.com/ Click on Community Relations at the bottom of the page - then [EMAIL PROTECTED] - then Local Giving. Darn it. The deadline was September 30, however each store does have funds to give locally. Try the one nearest Bastrop. Office Depot: <http://www.officedepot.com/> http://www.officedepot.com/ Click on Community Involvement at the bottom of the page - then follow the links. It appears that the easiest program in which to participate would be to directly request support from Office Depot: Request Support from Office Depot To request support from Office Depot for one of the purposes described above, please provide a brief description of your organization, your Federal Tax ID number, an explanation of what is being requested and the rationale based on our charitable giving guidelines. The request should be on your organization's letterhead. You must also provide a copy of your IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter. Send your request to: Office Depot 2200 Old Germantown Road Delray Beach, FL 33445 Attn: Donations Please allow four weeks for Office Depot to review and respond to your request. If you have questions, please e-mail <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [EMAIL PROTECTED] Circuit City: <http://investor.circuitcity.com/community.cfm> http://investor.circuitcity.com/community.cfm Nothing for libraries. Unless Katrina hit you. CompUSA: <http://www.compusa.com/about/we_care.asp> http://www.compusa.com/about/we_care.asp Contact each store. Local Sponsorships: CompUSA encourages stores to support the communities they serve. Each General Sales Manager is empowered to reach out to local non-profit organizations, teams and charitable causes. Frye's: <http://frys.com/> http://frys.com/ I can't find that they offer any community support. The local office is in Austin at 12707 N. Mopac Expressway, 78727, (512) 733-7000. Wal-Mart: http://walmartstores.com/GlobalWMStoresWeb/navigate.do?catg=435 <http://walmartstores.com/GlobalWMStoresWeb/navigate.do?catg=435&contId=4436 > &contId=4436 Basically, you apply for funds at each store. Target: http://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp?contentId=PRD03-004111#fo cus_local_store The grant cycle has just ended. Darn it. Applications open up again in March. YEAH!! I am now on the hunt for where to buy them. Do you know of any vendor that sells at a discount to libraries? Do you know of any other libraries that have had success in getting a discount? Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Sheilah Kosco Teen/Reference Librarian Bastrop Public Library 1100 Church Street PO Box 670 Bastrop, Tx 78653 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 512-303-0934 _____
