Those of us over 55 would like this policy!
Thanks.

We do not charge fines for juvenile books. All other books, including
books on cd or tape, accrue fines of 25 cents per day. Books are
checked out for 3 weeks. If they are turned in within the 5 day grace
period, there is no fine. If the items are turned in after the 5 day
grace period, the fine begins the day after it was due. Patrons 55 years
of age and older do not have fines. DVDs and VHS have 1week checkouts
and fines of $1per day with no grace period. The fine never goes over
the cost of the item.

If items are overdue, the computer will consider them lost after a
certain period of time. The patron will have a charge on their account
for the cost of the item plus a $5.00 service charge. If the patron
brings the item in, the charge for the item and service charge are
removed, but the fine will remain. If a patron's account stays in
arrears for 30 days, it is sent to a collection agency. If a patron pays
for the item as well as the service charge on the item and then later
finds the item, as long as the patron brings the item in along with a
copy of their receipt showing payment, the library system will reimburse
them for the cost of the item. The service charge is non-refundable.

What is your library charging for overdues these days?

Is it different for adults and children?

Does it vary by format?

Is there a maximum, and if so, what is it? Does that vary by format and
age of patron?

Please respond to the list. One of our newer librarians would like to
know.

Thanks.

Laurie
