Did anyone else read the article in the Austin Statesman yesterday? Originally by Jessica Belasco of the San Antonio Express, it headlines the saga of Ruth Mims, who's learned to read at age 79.
"In October 2006, she [Mims] changed that [her illiteracy] by enrolling in the adult literacy program at Tye Preston Memorial Library at Canyon Lake. She began working with a tutor and has already achieved roughly an elementary school reading level. 'This is a dream come true', Mims said. 'My mind is running overtime but I'm enjoying every minute of it.'" http://www.statesman.com/search/search/search/UnifiedSearch?query=Ruth+Mims<BLOCKED::http://www.statesman.com/search/search/search/UnifiedSearch?query=Ruth+Mims> Wow!
