Media and communications are changing so quickly that we have to rethink
ideas about what a library is and what it should be. Libraries are not
just buildings; they have become hubs of an information network linked
to resources in the community and the larger world. Children as well as
adults are affected by changes in the media they see around them. This
talk looks at how books, publishing, and information seeking have
changed for young people and how this affects the way librarians build
collections and offer services.
ADELE M. FASICK is Professor Emerita, and former Dean of the Faculty of
Information Studies, University of Toronto. She currently teaches at San
Joe State University. Managing Children's Services in the Public Library
Third Edition by Adele M Fasick and Leslie E Holt is a recent publication.
