I am pleased to announce that Cathy Threadgill, Director, Brazoria County Library System, and Greg Mitchell, Director, Texas A&M - Commerce Library, have been appointed by the commission to the Library Systems Act Advisory Board for three-year terms. They are replacing Herbert Canales (Director, Corpus Christi Public Library) and Dana Rooks (Dean of Libraries, University of Houston) whose terms expired. Greg Mitchell has been Director of Libraries at Texas A&M University - Commerce since 2006. Prior to that, he was Assistant Director for Resource Management at UT- Pan American Library from 2002 - 2006, and he has held various positions in both technical and public services at Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, and University of Kentucky Medical Center. He earned his MLS from the University of Kentucky in 1992 and a MA in Adult and Higher Education from Morehead State University in 2001. Greg has collaborated with public libraries in both the Rio Grande valley and in North East Texas. He has presented and published on the rapidly developing fields of multimedia and digital libraries at the regional and national level, as well as on the benefits of interlibrary cooperation for academic and public libraries. Cathy Threadgill is the director of the Brazoria County Library System. She received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and has over 17 years of library experience, including work at Montgomery County Memorial Library System, Harris County Public Library, and Victoria College/University of Houston, Victoria campus. Prior to moving to Texas in 1983 she worked in banking in southern California. Cathy is an active member of the Texas Library Association, including co-chairing the 2003-2005 taskforce on public library standards/accreditation standards, and also the Houston Area Library System.
