Calling for volunteers to man the technology petting zoo on November 14 at
CTLS's Exploring Technology Conference in Georgetown -- volunteers get
registration and lunch for free!

We are looking to have about 5-6 stations (most with computers/Internet) set
up for people to get hands-on experience with the web 2.0 technologies that
are enhancing library services. We're calling for volunteers to be
technology petting zoo station keepers, where conference participants could
ask you questions about a particular topic and you could show them the
technologies in an informal, science fair setting. Volunteers would be at
the stations for about 2 hours in the morning (10-noon) and are encouraged
to attend lunch and the rest of the conference. There will be a gaming room
in addition to the petting zoo and breakout sessions in the afternoon.

Here are some ideas for the stations, but it's not limited to these if you
have a topic you'd like to include in the petting zoo:

1) Digital cameras and Flickr -- how a Flickr account of pictures taken at
library events can engage your community, advocate for the library, etc.
(participants can bring their digital cameras with questions, maybe)
2) The ins and outs of downloadable audiobooks (with different types of mp3
players/iPods - we can help with this)
3) How to record and upload podcasts/vodcasts, and what to record (programs
or community topics) to share with a larger audience
4) Instant messaging - how to use it, and how to put it to use for reference
service
5) Online book clubs - blogs, wikis, facebook book discussions,
what-have-you
6) New gadgets and gizmos -- share tips and tricks
7) Blog table to blog about the conference or to show participants how to
set up blogs, add links and images, etc.

Any takers? Please email me if you're interested or pass this along to a
coworker if you think they would be interested.
