Subject: [slm] companies selling services traditionally offered by
libraries

Hi everyone,

I just attended a library conference last week (the REFORMA National
Conference in El Paso) and one thing that was discussed in one of the
sessions is that there is a rise in the number of commercial companies
offering fee-based services that are typically available free of charge
through public libraries.

As librarians, it is important that we continue to be aware of these
developments so that we change as our community's needs change and/or so
that we know when we need to do a better job of publicizing our
services.

Cell phone reference (text-based) might be a particularly important
issue to follow/consider....If any public libraries in Texas are
currently providing this type of service, I'd love to hear about it:

Who gives better answers, people or computers? Ask ChaCha

And here's a company selling online Google training sessions:

Thanks,

Naomi
