The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) acts as the organizational host for THDI. TSLAC and its partners, the University of North Texas Libraries and Amigos Library Services, have been awarded a $536,000 IMLS grant to develop "Train to Share: Interoperability Training for Cultural Heritage Institutions." This three-year project will address the need, identified nationally but equally evident at the local level, for quality sharable metadata, metadata produced within specific traditions of practice that can nonetheless be shared to create rich experiences for both today's user and the user of tomorrow. As part of the "Train to Share" project team, the THDI outreach and training coordinator will participate in planning, designing, organizing, conducting, and evaluating educational programs on quality metadata in digital projects for libraries, museums, and other cultural heritage institutions throughout the state. Additional work may include providing consultative services and technical assistance to project participants, cultural heritage professionals, and the general public. This is a 33-month grant-funded temporary position available immediately. CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Training Specialist III CLASS NO. 1783 PAY GROUP: B-9 ($3,064 - $3,750/month) Application forms and information are available at http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/jobs/thdioutreachcoor.html Essential Functions --Coordinates responsive delivery of THDI training services. --Coordinates, facilitates, and monitors THDI outreach activities. --Develops and implements tools to analyze program effectiveness. --Maintains awareness of current developments in digital library programs. --Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies. --Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct. Minimum Qualifications --Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in education, museum studies, library science, or a related field. --Two years professional experience in training or instruction. --Two years professional experience in writing or editing informational or educational materials. --Professional experience with or training in Web-based instruction techniques. Experience planning meetings and events for diverse off-site participants. Experience in preparation of reports. --Knowledge of instructional and curriculum design. --Knowledge of training procedures and techniques. --Ability to create training objectives and requirements and evaluate effectiveness of delivery. --Ability to assess training needs for a diverse audience of learners. --Ability to communicate tactfully with the public in writing and orally. --Ability to work as part of a project team. Preferred Qualifications --Graduate degree in education, museum studies, library science, or a related field. --Educational or professional background in museum studies. --Educational or professional background with digitization projects. --Experience in preparation of budgets and financial reports. --Experience in design and development of Web-based learning materials. --Knowledge of Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC), Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Dublin Core, Metadata Object Description Scheme (MODS), Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS), or other metadata schema. Other Requirements --Submit portfolio of writing samples or other relevant work products, including at least one sample presentation handout. --Submit college transcripts. --Some evening and weekend work required; may extend beyond 40-hour workweek. Regular travel by automobile or airplane. --Applicants selected for interview will make a 15-minute presentation on a digitization topic (specific topic may be assigned); the presentation may be videotaped.
