Judy - You should call the book jobber you use and another competitor -
you'll probably want to get a couple of quotes, so you can get an idea
of how each vendor will price the service, what the turnaround time is,
and how closely the finished product will match your ideal. Price is
just one factor...

Subject: [ctls-l] Cost of purchasing cataloging

Hi Everyone:

I am working on budget (as I suspect many of us are) and have to propose
alternative ways of doing things. We have always done our cataloging
in-house, so I don't have any idea what the cost of purchsing cataloging
with the materials is. I don't even know if it varies by materials type
or what. Can those of you who do buy cataloging records give me an idea
of what the average cost is? Also, how much more do you have to do with
the item after it arrives? Add call numbers, barcodes? As you can tell I
am woefully ignorant on this subject.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Judy
