Smithville, while not a TBF recipient, received some grants, too!

Congratulations!

Subject: Smithville grants:-)

Laurie,

Congratulations to the recipients of the Texas Book Festival Awards!

While we cannot boast of a Texas Book Festival grant, I am going to
shamelessly take this opportunity to tell you of a few that we have been
awarded! We're pretty excited about them:

"Friends of the Smithville Public Library" was awarded a Union Pacific
Foundation grant for program support (Summer Reading Program, Literacy
Programs, and our historical digitization project). We received the
check this week.

SPL received an award from the J. Frank Dobie Trust this month. (I
believe Taylor also received this one).

And the smallest, but possibly my favorite, because the books are sooooo
cool is the We the People Bookshelf with the "Picturing America" theme -
which goes so well with our Picturing America artwork. The We the People
Bookshelf is a collaboration between the ALA and the National Endowment
for the Humanities. We received a total of 22 books worth just under
$500, but they are amazing books. Congressman Lloyd Doggett stopped in
last weekend to see them and pledge continued support for the Arts &
Humanities. For more info on the We the People Bookshelf go to
http://www.wethepeople.gov/bookshelf/index.html

Thanks for the opportunity to share the good news!

--Judy
