The Blanco County South Library District is accepting resumes from
individuals to be considered for the position of Librarian at the Blanco
Library. 

 

The Librarian oversees the direct operation of the Library, its staff of
6 employees, and 40+ volunteers.  People skills are a must. Experience
in working with youth also required. Degree in Library Science not
required but the applicant will be expected to attend workshops and take
online classes to attain and maintain the level of competency required
by the Board of Trustees and the State of Texas. The librarian must be
computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Word, Power Point and
Excel. 

 

The Librarian position is based upon 40 hours per week, days and hours
per day to be determined by Librarian and Board of Trustees. 

 

Salary $30,000 - $35,000 per year based upon 40 hour work week and
Library experience. Two weeks vacation per year. Medical and 401K
benefits currently not available.

 

Librarian Job Description

 

1.)          Operates within the "Policy and Procedures" approved by the
Board of Trustees and Texas State Library Rules for small libraries.

 

2.)          Works in the library at least 40 hours per week doing
library work. Goals for use of time: 50% with patrons, volunteers and
assistant librarians, 35% paperwork, and 15% projects.

 

3.)          Makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees concerning
policy and procedure when appropriate.

 

4.)          Assists in budget preparation with the Board of Trustees
and operates within the budget established.

 

5.)          Purchases books, videos, talking books, and other library
materials within budget allocations.

 

6.)          Oversees orders and returns of ILL books in accordance with
CTLS procedure.

 

7.)          Arranges for new library material to be entered in the
automation system - barcoded, covered, stamped, etc.- and on the shelf
in an expeditious manner.




8.)          Maintains Library stats and completes surveys and forms as
required.  Supervises and guarantees book inventory records are current.
Completes other inventory forms as required.

 

9.)          Acknowledges and codes bills and gives them to Business
Assistant, assuring that all gifts of books will be acknowledged in form
letter by Librarian or staff designate.

 

10.)      Oversees overdues, issuance of new cards, and accessioning,
and maintains complete and accurate records.

 

11.)      Attracts patrons to use the library through creative programs,
displays, etc.

 

12.)      Oversees publication of articles related to library events,
programs, etc. in local newspapers.

 

13.)      Ensures the library has a clean, neat, and cheerful appearance
and pleasant environment for patrons.

 

14.)      Ensures that all patrons will have a pleasant experience while
in the library and that all will be treated in a friendly, positive
manner.

 

15.)      Appreciates, encourages, and assigns responsibilities to
assistant librarians, aides, other staff members and volunteers based on
their interest and talents.  Listens to volunteer's suggestions and
involves them in all information relating to the library when possible.

 

16.)      Assists the Board of Trustees with job performance evaluation
of salaried staff.

 

17.)      Recruits new volunteers and encourages their volunteerism if
the prospect and volunteer schedule is favorable to library needs.

 

18.)      Ensures that use of the building and the equipment is in
accordance with established policies and procedures.

 

19.)      Attends meetings as required for personal certification and
library certification.

 

20.)      Coordinates information services with other agencies.

 

21.)      Directs implementation and management of library database and
website.

 

22.)      Establish cross training procedures for operational library
procedures.

 

23.)      Assess community literacy needs and provide appropriate
materials and programs.

 

24.)      Adheres to the American Library Association Code of Ethics.
