Subject: [pld] Texas Voter Survey on Libraries Mailed to Local
Government Officials

Dear PLD Member,

TLA is mailing out information to all Texas mayors, city council
members, city managers, county commissioners, and county judges about
the recent Texas voter opinion poll on libraries. This mailing provides
a quick snapshot of the broad support of Texas voters for public and
school libraries. (This mailing is also being sent to school principals
and superintendents statewide.) The survey demonstrates the
extraordinary, broad-based support for library funding, and this mailing
is one way TLA is making sure that this information is seen by decision
makers.

The mailing should begin reaching officials in a few days. (For a copy
of the mailed text, go to:
http://www.txla.org/html/pr/Survey/TLA%20Survey.pdf). Your city or
county administrators may have questions for you. Or, you may want to
take the opportunity to send your administrators and local elected
officials a note giving a "heads up" on the mailing. Your friends' group
or library board/commission might also send a note.

You can take the opportunity to highlight some of your library's
programs and invite officials to visit your library, check out the
variety of resources on your website, or just give them local numbers
(visits, circulations, and attendance at job programs, for instance). To
see the full results of the survey, go to:
http://www.txla.org/html/pr/survey.html.

We thank our sponsors - EBSCO Information Services, Encyclopaedia
Britannica, Inc., and ProQuest - for their support of this effort.
During these very difficult economic times, it is critical that decision
makers have access to information about what people in the state value.
And, they clearly value public libraries.

Best Wishes,

Gloria Meraz
